The Holidays are often some of the most joy filled times of the year but along with the excitement, shared love of family and friends there is the stress, roller coaster emotions and of course, huge temptations. How does one prepare themselves physically and mentally for that which lies ahead? Being genuinely true to ourselves is the key but is no small task especially when it involves close friends and family however, it is our best path for staying healthy overall.

May I suggest, before your feet touch the floor each morning, setting a couple of simple intensions that you consciously revisit throughout your day. Such as, ‘I intend to be loving and kind to myself today.’ Or, ‘I intend to honor my body, mind and spirit by thinking before responding.’ As general as these seem, they speak volumes. This means you will adhere to your workout program and not allow anything else to bump it out of your schedule. It also means when temptations show up in the form of homemade Christmas cookie, candies and endless invitations that may cause you to feel obligated you will be much more mindful of how you partake, if all. Setting intensions and making commitments can only be as effective as your willingness to be dedicated to them. Lip service will not work. We must walk our talk and if we do, at the end of the day we feel so good about yourselves and how we moved through the day. Not to mention by-passing the guilt of over indulging, saying yes when we really wanted to say no and skipping out on our training partners.
